Nausea and Vomiting

Babies vomit for several reasons some of them being:

Vomiting associated with feeding: Mostly these problems are  caused by GER

  • She has not burped after her feed. The trapped gas in her tummy tends to bring out her feed while burping. You can avoid this by making her burp soon after her feed. After feeding her, hold her upright with her head on your shoulder and walk around or gently pat her back behind her tummy until she burps. This helps prevent gas and colic.

  • She is overfed. Her tummy feels pressurized and rejects the feed by causing her to throw up. Ensure that she does not eat beyond her limits. If you are breast-feeding, simply feel her tummy. If it is tight, she might be full and you may stop. Give her more only if she cries for it. If she is already full, she would not ask for more. In case of spoon-feeding, do not exceed her limit and do not force-feed her.

  • The quantity of food passing though her esophagus is big. Give her small spoonfuls. Her food-pipe (esophagus) us very narrow and if it is pressurized, it causes her to feel nauseated.

  • She has eaten too fast. Exerting sudden pressure on her tummy might sometimes cause her to feel nauseated. Make her eat slowly.
