Rashes and itching
Babies develop rashes due to various reasons. Some of the causes are:
Insect bites: Broad patches of reddish areas. Apply calamine lotion for relief and check with
a doctor if it does not subside even after 24 hours.
Allergy to soaps and other toilet items: There is a flaring up of rashes soon after the soap is used and subsides
when calamine is applied. Change the soap or toiletry item.
Allergy to certain foods: If she gets rashes due to some types of foods, discontinue them.
Prickly heat: Is caused due to excessive heat and sweating. Apply prickly heat powder after bath
and just before bed-time for relief.
Poxes and measles: If she has got chicken pox, she has blisters popping up all over her body and she
has a temperature. If it is measles, she has rashes like prickly heat all over her body along with a temperature.
She should not be exposed to the sun which would irritate her skin. Consult a doctor and keep her under
medication. She needs to be quarantined.
