baby sitting - father

New fathers may find it difficult to handle babies especially when they cry. It is difficult for them to understand babies unless they have spent whole days with them. Here are a few tips that may help fathers help mothers out in this challenging task:

1. You could get a time-table of baby's feed and sleep time from Ma. If she is already comfortable being away from her mother it is okay. On the other hand she might initially be anxious about not having her mother and this might alter her sleep times.
2. You could be pre-informed on knowing why she is crying and make sure she is alright. She might cry for a few minutes after Ma leaves and would calm down later. Soon she learns to say 'bye' to Ma.
3. Do not admonish her. Remember that a male voice is often harsh compared to a female voice and even the slightest hint of anger might send her into a fit of crying.
4. Make a note of all that she has eaten and how long she has slept. This helps Ma know if things are alright with baby. This could be discontinued once Pa gains confidence.
5. Do not hibernate in front of the TV with her on your lap. She needs interaction and real activity to learn and grow.
