Bottle feed

You can start bottle feeds as a supplement to breast milk after she is 4 months old. Introduce in small quantities for the first few days and check for any symptoms of lactose intolerance. Gradually increase the feed amount over a week until her full feed quantity is reached.

Formula milk:

Make the milk as per the instructions given by manufacturer. However, alter the quantity of the feed as per your baby's requirement. Never expect her to meet the manufacturer's feeding chart. While some babies consume only 50 ml of milk per feed, come may consume even 200 ml!. You could also try giving her cow's milk or other pasteurized milk.

Once she has had her feed, you could drink up the remaining milk or give it to your pet. If both these do not happen, simply discard feed. NEVER feed your baby with the milk left over from her previous feed, even though there may be lots of it.

   Sterilizing her bottles:

After she has had her feed, empty the bottle and wash it well with a good quality cleanser. Use bottle brush and nipple brush. Remember to clean the bottle threads and nipple groove. It is easier and more economical to sterilize 2 or more bottles together.

Take a vessel large enough to hold her bottles, caps and nipples. Include the milk seal if you have used it. Pour in water enough to completely immerse all these. Bring the water to boil and keep the flame low for another 15 minutes. Only then does it get sterile and infection free. Dry them well and keep ready for the next feed.
