day care centers and crèches

With so many day-care centers mushrooming all over the place especially in the cities, it becomes very important to check out on several points before you get your little girl to go to one.
1. Does the day-care center have a good reputation and did somebody recommend it to you? If yes, well and good, otherwise, read the following.
2. There should be at least one caretaker per 3 babies (if she is under 2 years). There could be fewer caretakers for babies that are over 2 years old.
3. Are the employees clean and hygienic? Check the bathrooms and toilets at the place to see if they are maintained well - this would talk about the hygiene of the people there.
4. Are the people friendly and intelligent in handling the babies? You can see this right at the first time you take her there.
5. Would they maintain a log of everyday activities of the baby and let you know? If not, insist on it.
6. Are they clear about NOT taking in the baby if she is sick or has a contagious infection? This would ensure that they prevent diseases from spreading.
7. Make it clear that they inform you beforehand if a caretaker is not going to be available so that you could make other arrangements.
